Ultimatum 2021 was NAFL’s debut Commerce Fest. The event consisted of competitions based on environment, business, finance, economics, and journalism.
The Journalist was a two-day competition to test the ability of aspiring journalists to think quickly and clearly. Students from classes 9 to 12 attended the competition, from Bangalore, Mysore, Chennai and Singapore.
First Round-
A total of 13 teams from 9 schools participated in the first round. The schools from the Presidency family included Presidency School Nandini Layout, Presidency School Bangalore South, Presidency School Bangalore North and Presidency RT Nagar. From National Public School, we saw NPS International Singapore, NPS International Mysore, NPS Indiranagar, NPS Chennai, and NPS HSR.
The first round was a multiple-choice question round. The questions were based on journalism ethics, terms, concepts and general journalism know-how. 9 out of the 13 teams qualified for the second round.
Second Round-
The second round was intense, to say the least. Participants were given an article riddled with factual errors. The participants were given one hour to fact-check the article, correct all it’s mistakes, rewrite the article, and send the rewritten version to the judges. The article consisted of two pages pertaining to American political controversies. The results were sent within a few hours of the competition. 5 of the remaining teams qualified for the final round.
This concluded Day 1 of The Journalist.
The Final Round-
The final Round was held on Day 2. For the third round, Participants were required to interview a participant of Ceteris Paribus, an economic-related event. The topic of the interview was given 90 minutes prior to the interview, giving the journalists time to research on the topic. The scenario given to us was straightforward. We were journalists in India, and the scientists of the country discovered a new vaccine for combating Covid-19. However, within a few days of distribution, negative side-effects emerged. The journalists were supposed to attend the live speech given by The Prime Minister (a participant of Ceteris Paribus) and interview him during the time allotted for the Press Interview. We later had to report our findings to the judges of The Journalist in a live reporting session. Participants were assessed based on their ability to interview and report.
That concluded the final round.
About an hour and a half later, we had the closing ceremony, where the winners of each event were announced. The first-place winners were from NPS International Singapore.
Congratulations to our team from Presidency School, Nandini Layout comprising – Aditya Sharath M & Tushar A D Rao, which won the second place in Verbattle Competition. This was an online debate competition conducted by Verbattle over the span of the past 3 months was an incredible melting pot of talented, competent, passionate, and skilled students within the age group of 12 to 16 years.
Topics like, “There is no cure to racism”, “Prayers must not be a shopping list with God”, and “Men have a better sense of beauty” were both extremely challenging for the students and equally fruitful.The top 27 teams in the ‘Skirmish’ rounds qualified for the ‘Combat’ rounds.The top 9 teams qualified for the ‘Confrontation’ Round. In this round, since there were only 9 teams, each team had to go through just one debate.
The students definitely learnt the skill of grit, perseverance, and calm. They also recognized their own strength and mettle.
Champions do not become champions when they win the event, but in the hours, weeks and months that they spend preparing for it.”
The victorious performance of students at Anveshan, the Interschool Virtual Competition conducted by New Cambridge International Public School,West of Chord Road, is itself proof of the hard work and dedication that was involved.
Recital in Harmony was the name of the poetry recitation competition held for Grades 1 and 2 in which Saanvi Bhat of Grade 2C of our school secured the first place, Anika Gowda of Grade 2B won the second place and the Consolation Prize went to Sai Krishna of 2A. Ms. Sonali and Ms. Kavitha helped the children put forth their best performance.
In the solo dance competition, Natyabhinay, for the students of Grades 3 and 4, Navyan JK of 4D won the first prize while Swasthi of 4D secured the second prize. They were ably trained by Mr. Gowtham.
Sandhyasree of 7B won the 2nd prize in the Kalaprathibha event which helped children explore their creativity by designing a dress out of newspaper.
Students were given an opportunity to display Science models through the event Quest. Amaan Mallik of 6B won the 2nd prize for his model on the Earthquake Alarm and Prathyush P Kundapur of 6A won the 3rd place for his Water Pressure Piston based on Pascal’s Law. Sathwika HV of Grade 9 A secured the 3rd place in Mathemagic for a model which explained the applications of Trigonometry.
In keeping with its winning tradition of being the best among the best, PSNLO has once again proven its mettle. The prestigious Times Schools Survey 2020 conducted by the leading national daily The Times of India has accorded us the topmost position among the West Zone Schools of Bangalore. The survey also ranked PSNLO 7th among all the ICSE schools in the whole of Bangalore.
We are humbled by this huge recognition. However, our best award still happens to be the smiles that our students display on their lips day in and day out.

The Presidency School Quiz champs Kushagra Agarwal and Aditya Sharath have added yet another feather in the cap of victories. The duo have many achievements to their credit now, the latest being the quiz conducted by the Bank of Baroda. This event saw the participation of over 100 schools and about 275 teams in total. Conducted by the Pickbrain Giri Balasubramanium himself the competition included general quiz questions. The team from Presidency School NLO came second at the end of five rounds and were also awarded a cash prize of Rs. 20000 each. The team has made the school proud in many such competitions and we wish they reign the quizzing world in the years to come.
We are very proud to announce that Kushagra Agarwal of Grade 8, Presidency School NLO was the 1st Runner up of Financial Literacy Quiz conducted by TCS iON Intelligence.
He was among the 50 brightest students out of 10,000 from 396 schools across India. This year, the competition was structured in the five very important 21st century skills: Universal Values, Global Citizenship, Financial Literacy, Communication Skills, Creativity & Innovation.
Apart from bagging the silver medal, he also received a cash prize of Rs. 25,000/- and a goody bag from Mr. Sriram Jairaman, HR Head, TCS at a glittering ceremony in Mumbai on the 26th of January 2020.

‘A clarion call of victory’
The Pride of Presidency school, Nandini Layout – our All girls Band added one more feather to their cap by securing the second place in the 71st Republic day Celebrations held at Manekshaw Parade Ground. Their synchronized movement marching style and perfect coordination was a feast to the senses. It was spectacular as well as inspiring to see the young faces marching with a sense of dignity, pride and patriotism. This marching contingent has won laurels for the school and has been at the pinnacle in giving their display of prowess in various occasions. Their excitement knew no bounds when they raised their trophy of victory from the Governor.
We declare with Great Pride that our school’s Hrishitha Kedage was one of the 60 students chosen for the Innovative Learning Program of the Prime Minister, DHRUV!
She qualified an IQ Test as per Mensa’s Norms conducted throughout India, and made it to the Top 60. Dhruv’s mission is to encourage talented students to realize their full potential and make a better contribution to society. The Program was initiated on the 10th of October 2019 at the ISRO Headquarters after which the students underwent a training for 14 days in Delhi. She got the opportunity to mingle with eminent scientists, musicians etc. Hrishita and the selected few will act as a beacon for 33 Crores of Students across India!
Presidency School Nandini Layout, participated in the KISA UTSAV-Western Instrumental music category and secured the First Prize. The venue was Embassy Public School, Magadi Road. Eleven Schools participated and the judges-Ms Keerthana and Mr. Bayan had a tough choice to make. The theme was ‘Blast from the past’ and the medley included Lambad, Pink Panther, Mr. Bean and Game of Thrones. The students who participated were Shreyas Chowdhary, Adrian Charles, Akash Raghu, Noel Anil John, Chirag and Sudhanva Muralidharan. They earned their first prize because of their perfect co-ordination and flawless performance. The second prize went to Sarvani School and the third to Brigade School.
Presidency School Nandini Layout, participated in the Science Project Competition and ‘ Bhavageethe’ competition held as part of Goonj 2019 at National Public School, Yeswantpur on 30th July ,2019. It is a matter of pride that our school secured the first and second prizes in the science project competition. The First Prize was secured by Vamsee and Aditya for their model on waste management called Aglod and the second prize by Yathin and Manyu for the thermo electric generator. Hrishitha Kedage of Grade VIII secured the first prize in the Bhavageethe competition.

Curtains are drawn on the session 2017-18 and the new session 2018-19 is beckoning us. Even as the children are enjoying a well-deserved vacation we are working round the clock to see they enjoy the next session in a better way and learn more in the process. “Intelligence plus character — that is the goal of true education” said Martin Luther King, Jr. This is exactly what we strive to achieve. Right from our curriculum to the delivery mechanism, to the assemblies, to the bulletin boards to various competitions and functions, we focus on the same. Looking forward to welcoming our young ones.
SANGAM 2017 was organized on 25th November2017. The event showcased the glimpses of India’s culture, tradition, landscape and civilization. Nine major projects were exhibited. These projects include Digital India which exhibited India’s progress in the field of Information and Technology. It consisted of ATM machines, digital village, E-school, E-Hospital, Swach Bharath Abhyam, etc., projects with “India’s Foreign Relations” included UNO, NAM, ASEAN, Common wealth of Nations, BRICS, etc., others were Rain Forests, Self Employment in India, costumes and culture of different states and welfare schemes of India which included women empowerment; Bheti Bachao, Bheti Padav, Make in India (Puppet show), Bachat Lamp (LED Bulbs over incandescent bulb), Gram vikas Yojna & GST. A project on River Cauvery, was the highlight of the day. All the above projects were done by
| Blessed be the childhood which brings down something of heaven into the midst of our rough earthliness. The school cherished the childhood of all its young students and treated them to a show that would be stamped in their memories forever. The teachers danced, sang, acted, recited poems and entertained their dear students. The love, care and affection showcased by them has touched the students deeply. All the youngsters stumbling around in casual clothes enjoyed the day dedicated to them and had a great time to say the least. Amongst the tide of students who were all smiles on the day there were also a few tearful faces of our tenth grade students who wouldn’t be called children henceforth. The day ended with mixed emotions and created new memories. |
